In order to make the expansion project financially feasible, St. Lawrence Gas may have to include a temporary surcharge on your monthly bill, as allowed under New York State Public Service Commission policy. This relatively small surcharge would be included in your monthly bill for the first 5 years of the project only.
With the temporary surcharge included, estimated residential energy rates* currently show that natural gas could save a typical heating customer as much as 36% to 67% in annual energy costs depending on the customer’s current energy source (fuel oil, propane, electricity). For a typical household this equals a savings of $780 to $2765 per year.
*Energy rates calculated using July 2010 rates
Even if St. Lawrence Gas must include a temporary surcharge for the first 5 years, would you still be interested in converting your home heating system and/or water heating system to natural gas under the following conditions?
