Frequently Asked Questions

Why is St. Lawrence Gas offering rebates?

On June 23, 2008 the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an Order establishing an Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (EEPS) for New York State. In this Order, all New York State utilities were required to implement a residential natural gas heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) energy efficiency program.

To comply with the Commission Order St. Lawrence Gas collaborated with NYSERDA and other utilities and other parties to developed a preliminary Energy Efficiency Plan (“EEP”) that was submitted to the PSC on August 22, 2008. On April 9, 2009 the PSC approved the St. Lawrence Gas EEP with modifications. The St. Lawrence Gas EEP as described below will be effective July 1, 2009 for equipment installed after July 1, 2009.

What rebates are available through the EEP?

Incentive rebates will be made available for residential natural gas customers, both new construction and existing homes, who install qualifying natural gas equipment beginning with equipment installations made on or after July 1, 2009.  Incentive rebates will be offered to St. Lawrence Gas (“SLG”) customers who make the choice to purchase high efficiency space heating and water heating appliances, controls, duct sealing and/or who purchase energy star rated programmable thermostats.

Where can I get a rebate application?

You can get an application at the SLG Office in Massena, from your contactor or you can download a copy of the application
here. You may also call the toll-free office number  at 1-800-454-2201 to request that an application be mailed to you.

Can I get more than one rebate for the same appliance?

Customers
may not receive a rebate from both SLG and NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority). Customers may also be able to receive federal tax credits or manufacturer’s rebates (if available).

How will I receive my rebate?

Incentive rebates will be credited on your natural gas invoice after all required documentation has been processed by SLG. For landlords who do not have an SLG account a check will be processed in lieu of an invoice credit.
