Meter exchange program
The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) requires gas utility companies to test and maintain the accuracy of gas meters. To satisfy this requirement, a
customer’s gas service is temporarily shut off while the meter is exchanged. As part of the exchange, a technician must enter the premise to ensure that all gas appliances
are operating properly. Safety inspections are also performed. The total time to complete the work at the customer's premise is approximately one hour. There is no
charge to the customer for this work.
Meters are then brought back to the Company headquarters in Massena, where they are inspected for leaks, mechanical integrity and overall accuracy. Once they have
been inspected and tested, they are either refurbished for reuse or retired.
