New York’s 100-foot rule repealed

Did you know? New York State has eliminated the “100-foot rule” for new residential natural gas connections.

• Effective Dec. 19, 2026, utilities in New York will no longer be required to cover the cost of the first 100 feet of a new gas line when a home is close to an existing main.

• New residential customers across New York state will be responsible for the full cost of connecting to natural gas beginning Dec. 19, 2026.

• Existing homes and commercial buildings will not be affected
