Community Support

Liberty New York Gas is an active and committed community member, contributing our talents and resources to better the areas where we live and work.  We support organizations and events that add to the quality of life in the communities that we serve.  Below are some of the recent events we have had the pleasure of being involved in:

Massena Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament

Several members of the NY Gas team participated in the Liberty sponsored Massena Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament on August 24th. We had two teams that participated in the tournament and several volunteers that helped make the day run smoothly. Lots of fun was had and lots of money was raised for a very worthy cause.

Coaching Local Kiddos

Liberty is a proud sponsor of the Massena Little League Coach-Pitch Team! Not only did we have the pleasure of sponsoring the team, Liberty Business and Development Manager Adam Soulia was the coach. We love getting involved in the communities we serve.

Support for Our Seniors

Two Liberty NY Gas employees recently attended the “Seniorama” event at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort Bingo Palace. The Seniorama is a health and information fair for senior citizens where we provided information on HEAP, Energy Efficiency Tips and other information that we thought they would find helpful. It was well attended and we interacted with several people interested in natural gas.

Raffle to Benefit the Children of Our Community

NY Gas recently held a raffle to benefit the children of our community. Colleen Besaw, Mapping Technician, reached out to our local recreation manager as to how we could help get food to the kids who would most likely go without during the gap between the rec program and the start of school. It was decided that we would raise money and provide “snack bags” to be distributed on the last day of the rec program. We were able to raise enough money to provide 144 bags for distribution. Thank you to all of our employees who participated in the raffle – without your support, this wouldn’t have been possible.

Popping Tasty Treats for Tots

Yesterday Liberty SLG employees volunteered at Jefferson Elementary School’s J-Day. This event goes back decades as a school tradition, and this is Liberty’s third year sponsoring the popcorn stand. The kids always look forward to a much need snack break from their long day of festivities. 429 bags of popcorn were popped fresh and handed out to smiling faces.

Liberty Makes Donation to Lawrenceville Fire Department

On June 2nd, Mark Saltsman, Liberty Vice President and Dan Burke, Director of Operations with Liberty gathered with a group of partners in the Stauffer Farm RNG project to present the Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department with a check. Contributing partners included LF Bio-Fuels, Martin Energy, Host Bioenergy Systems, and Marathon Petroleum. The funds donated were used to purchase a Jaws of Life emergency extraction system.

Planting Happiness at THE LODGE at Dreaming Tree Ranch

On May 11, a group of Liberty employees got together to brighten up the grounds at The Lodge. Volunteers planted donated flowers in pots and in the ground. The lodge is an establishment that aims to enrich the lives of a family who has received the dreaded news of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.

Liberty Employees Exercise Their Green Thumbs

Liberty NY Gas employees recently hosted a BBQ and planting event. They used recycled milk, juice, and soda containers to decorate and use as planters for the succulents and herbs. The herbs will be left in the lunchroom so employees can watch them grow and use them for cooking.

Bottle Drive Turns Trash Into Treasure

Liberty Mapping Technician Colleen Besaw recently started a bottle drive to turn trash into treasure. By encouraging employees to bring in old plastic bottles and cans, Liberty was able to raise enough money to purchase 100 reusable water bottles to donate to the Massena Central School District. Thank you to everyone who brought in cans and bottles and thank you to Colleen and her family for taking the bottles to the redemption center!

Liberty Employee Leads Massena Varsity Boys Basketball Team to Championship

In March, Liberty mapping specialist Matthew Perry led the Massena Varsity Boys Basketball team to win the NYS Section X Class A Championship at Maxcy Hall. Congrats to the team and the coach!

Spreading Christmas Joy

On December 7, a group of Liberty NY Gas employees presented 160 Christmas gifts for the residents of the Massena Rehabilitation & Nursing Center to the Activities Director. The NY Gas team held fundraising activities in November, including a bake sale and a soup/chili sale, to purchase non-slip socks, lip balm and lotion to add to the picture frames created at the Elves at Work Community Holiday Event. These gifts helped spread Christmas joy to the nursing home residents.

Eggs and Energy Breakfast

Over the fall/winter period, Liberty NY Gas hosted a series of breakfasts titled “Energy and Eggs.” The purpose of the breakfasts was to provide updates on our winter heating cost forecast, our commitment to being part of the communities we serve, the work we are doing to reduce our carbon footprint and steps NY Gas is engaged in to enhance the customer experience, including assistance programs for ratepayers struggling with high energy prices this winter.

The audience included a small group of local elected officials, leaders of sustainability groups, school officials, and representatives from non-profit agencies serving the community.

Litter Patrol

In September, several Liberty NY Gas employees took advantage of their Liberty Days to complete a two-mile highway cleanup on state Route 56 in the towns of Louisville and Norfolk, NY during Liberty’s Hearts and Hands Week. NY Gas employees have been maintaining this stretch of highway for several years.

Meet Sweeney, Liberty’s Puppy with a Purpose

In line with Liberty’s values of giving, inclusivity, and volunteerism, we are excited to share that we are working with the Guide Dog Foundation to raise a Puppy with a Purpose. Liberty NY Gas, Liberty New Hampshire, and Liberty NY Water have teamed up to raise a puppy through the Guide Dog Foundation for approximately 12-16 months, teaching him basic manners, socialization skills, and getting him primed for his formal training at the Guide Dog Foundation facility. The puppy will then go on to fulfill its purpose – to provide independence to a blind or visually impaired individual.

Welcome to the Liberty family, Sweeney!

In addition to the above events, the employees of Liberty NY Gas devote their time and energy to many service clubs (Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis), Fraternal Orders (BPOE), community sports programs (as coaches and referees), volunteer organizations (fire departments), and local government (school boards, city council).  These employees are highly respected for their leadership and volunteer efforts.
