Cost Comparison

The unit of measure for the cost is a therm.  One therm is equivalent to 100,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs).  One BTU is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.

Liberty Utilities’ current average price per therm is:    $1.07 (Price per therm is updated no later than the 10th of each month.)

* The natural gas equivalent is calculated using SC-1 Residential rate using the 12-month average cost for 1089 delivered therms or 780 Gal/fuel oil, 1180 Gal/Propane. Prices includes delivery (including customer charge) and current commodity charges. Commodity charges through a marketer may vary.
** Price shown does not include applicable surcharges for expansion area.  Price in expansion area includes a CIAC surcharge which is calculated by adding $.0361 per therm.  Price of surcharge does not change based on usage.

Comparisons with Other Fuels

The price our customers pay for natural gas, which can change from month to month, includes a number of different elements, such as:

  • the maintenance of your gas lines and meters
  • meter reading and billing costs
  • the cost to transport gas from its source at the well-head
  • the cost to deliver gas through a network of gas lines
  • the cost of the natural gas commodity
  • the cost to balance the Company’s daily supply with the daily demand
  • a return on the Company’s investment in capital assets to distribute gas
